چکیده

AbsfracfA charge density and current density model of a waveguide system has been developed to explore the ef€ects of electric field electrode poling. An optical waveguide may be modeled during poling by considering the dielectric charge distribution, polarization charge distribution, and conduetion charge generated by the poling field. These charge distributions are the source of poling current densities. The model shows that boundary charge current density and polarization current density are the major source of currents measured during poling and thermally stimulated discharge These charge distributions provide insight into the poling mechanisms and are directly related to E,, and, g. Initial comparisons with expvimntpl data show excellent correlation to the model results.

Design of a new asymmetric waveguide in InP-Based multi-quantum well laser

Today, electron leakage in InP-based separate confinement laser diode has a serious effect on device performance. Control of electron leakage current is the aim of many studies in semiconductor laser industry. In this study, for the first time, a new asymmetric waveguide structure with n-interlayer for a 1.325 μm InP-based laser diode with InGaAsP multi-quantum well is proposed and theoreticall...

Optical fiber poling by induction: analysis by 2D numerical modeling.

Since their first demonstration some 25 years ago, thermally poled silica fibers have been used to realize device functions such as electro-optic modulation, switching, polarization-entangled photons, and optical frequency conversion with a number of advantages over bulk free-space components. We have recently developed an innovative induction poling technique that could allow for the developme...

Electro-Optic Coefficient Enhancement in Poled LiNbO3 Waveguides

Lithium niobate crystals (LN) show a significant electro-optic (EO) response which contributes to the fabrication of low-voltage operation, high speed integrated optical modulators routinely used in optical telecommunication and integrated optics [1]. A UV laser direct writing method for the fabrication of optical channel waveguides has been proposed and characterized recently [2–4]. Here we re...

Thin film wavelength converters for photonic integrated circuits

Quasi-phase-matched (QPM) wavelength converters are highly desirable for emerging nonlinear optics applications in photonic integrated circuits, but available waveguide and quasi-phase-matching technologies have so far constrained their realization. In this work, we present a periodically poled lithium niobate (LN) waveguide on a silicon nitride– thin film LN platform. It contains a submicromet...
